100th anniversary of the falling asleep of saint Raphael of Brooklyn

On April 24, 2015 the celebrations dedicated to the Centennial Jubilee of the Repose of St. Raphael of Brooklyn will take place in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Brooklyn.

St. Raphael was a famous church and civic leader in Brooklyn and overall USA in the beginning of the 20th Century. St. Raphael is a saint very much known in the Russian and many other Orthodox Churches in the American land. He came to the U.S. from Russia, but was of Arabic decent. He united Orthodox Christians of different cultures under the Omophorion of Russian Church.

The Moleben to St. Raphael will be served before his icon painted by the monks of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, specifically painted for the present event. It is very symbolic, since St. Raphael was a graduate of the Kiev Theological Academy.

St. Raphael also studied in the Theological School in Halki Island in Turkey, and taught in the Kazan Theological Academy in Russia.
