12 July, Luxembourg: Main shrine of ROCOR visited the church of Sts. Peter and PaulThe main shrine of ROCOR visited the church of Sts. Peter and Paul of Luxembourg on 12 July – on the Remembrance Day of prime Apostles. It was the dedication day for that church which is the only parish of ROCOR in Luxembourg.

On that day the Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Archbishop of Geneva and Western Europe Diocese Michael together with clergy of other different European countries: archpriest Stephan Weerst from Brussels, archpriest Peter Sturm from Zurich, archpriest Aemilian Pochinok and deacon Volodymyr Svystun from Geneva, archpriest Igor Yefremushkin from Prague, archpriest Spyridon Tsekuras from Luxemburg (Ecumenical Patriarchate) and clergyman of the church George Mashtaler.

Especially for the Patronal Feast Archbishop Michael brought the main shrine of Russian Orthodox Church Abroad – the wonderworking icon “Our Lady of the Sign”, for prayerful veneration of clergy and believers.

The Church of Sts. Peter and Paul is located in the quiet central district of Limpertsberg. Today it is the spiritual resort for many of Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Bulgarians, Serbians, Georgians, Armenians, Greeks, Ethiopians and other Orthodox, who lives in Luxembourg or who visited the country.

A history of that parish is inextricably linked to the Kursk Root Icon – 40 years ago the Rector archpriest Sergiy Pukh was prayed in a front of this icon and gave the promise to God to build the church if He will grant him health. The Orthodox community of Luxembourg is exists since 1928. For a long time the believers had to pray in temporary church. In 1979 by fr. Sergiy’s labors was laid the foundation of the real church, and after three years the first service have took place in it. Engineers and architects of Luxembourg developed the plan of stronghold-church, which would unite the features of the Grand Duchy, which withstood many sieges and kept its Independence, and Russian Orthodoxy, which contains the traditions of the Church forefathers. The church was painted by fr. Cyprian of the Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville.
